fros february rendezvous : bangkok - part 1

going to bangkok is not what I hef in my 2011 to do list. it was more of a pulse decision when i told poknik about an uncle’s invitation to join his group rendezvous. poknik seems to take it seriously. serious enough till we actually made it.

bangkok. as what adirun ( our tourist guide ) had mentioned, is a city of the angels. bangkok is not the actual name of which the thais call their capital, but another name long enough tat it made it in guinness book of world record. please google it urself. ( krung thep maha nakhon )

amazing thailand is the tagline used by the thai tourism, visiting pattaya and bangkok really really amazed me. for the wrong and right reason! they are very proud of their culture and language. i can see they are so united and despite of being of multiracial society just like malaysia, they all speak thai and embrace thai culture. i could be wrong on this as I was only there for 4 days.

this visit was a very important one for me. i learned many things throughout the trip. one of the most significant lesson was the same exact lesson when  i was in bandong last year, “nasi goring pattaya” does not originate from pattaya . just like mee bandong + air bandung, both do not come from bandong, indonesia!

before the trip, i equipped myself with the essential background knowledge of thailand. i was surprised to know 3 most southern states in Thailand used to be kelantan.  they are narathiwat, pattani and yala. another airport closest to kb is actually only 1 hour drive from my house.

i was very proud to know that kelantanese language was widely spoken in the 3 most southern states in thailand and also in pattaya & bangkok! if u found a muslim restaurant and if they were malays, chances are they speak very fluent kelantanese.

thais are very friendly and polite. tat explain why tourism is thailand  no 1 source of income. thai kindom has 77 states but unlike malaysia, they only have 1 king. the king, bumiphol is loved by most of them, just like i love my agong + raja kelantan. daulat tuanku.

bangkok has 2 city airports. one is suvharnabumi ( international airport ) and another one - Dhong Juan ( cargo airport ). suvharnabumi is at least 10x bigger than klia and always full of people. imagine puduraya.

bangkok population is approx 12millions.

taxis are everywhere and very cheap despite their expensive petrol. avoid travelling by tut tuts as they are ripoffs, doesn’t know places and most important – not safe. their taxis are all brand new ( vios and above ).

the currency exchange is 1,000myr = 9,930 baht ( as of 31.01.2011 ).

the roads are very damn good in thailand. ppl say it’s the only thing done right in thailand but I beg to dffer.

the difference between baht and code. Baht ni ilir, code biasa ore kapung sebut.

phrases u must noe :

sawadeekaa : hai
kapkunkaa : thank u
kin nam : eat
nam ron : ice
nam kin : iced water
me ow : not meow as in cat’s meow but may auuu and it means don’t want
pai : go

okay i think tat’s all for the 1st part, cu in the second part. piccies will be provided later.

Kap kun kaaa!
